Special Interest and Community Services

The Special Interest and Community Service clubs fall under the auspices of the Special Interest and Community Service Sodality (SICS) student constituent body (CBd) which was set up in 2008. The body was formed to oversee the various CCA clubs founded to bring together people of various interests- gourmet, wine appreciation, board gaming, environmentalism, debating, fishing, mixed martial arts are some of the interests around which our clubs are centered. We also have clubs which focus on personal and professional development such as public speaking, social enterprise, networking, and exposure to international conferences and internships.

The other half of our sodality consists of community service (CS) clubs, which engage in both short term and long term projects, and span a wide range of beneficiaries – disadvantaged children, non-academically inclined teenagers, the elderly and the disabled. Many CS clubs have established long-term, recurring projects such as Rotaract Club's Project Sparkle and SMU Red Cross' A Truly Magical Christmas.

SICS has the mission to inculcate a sense of belonging and foster closer ties between it's Special Interest and Community Service clubs, through the integration of club activities under its purview. Among the signature events organised by SICS are the SICS Freshmen Camp, Name Tent Drive, Presidential Summit, Appreciation Night, and the bi-annual community service project, SMU Challenge.
